Saudi Arabian-based Al-Yamamah Steel is building a reinforcing steel bar rolling mill in Jesan, Saudi Arabia, and the company commissioned Etteplan to serve as technical consultants for the project.

Etteplan’s Oulu office came along in the project, which got underway in March 2004, when the customer received offers from two potential equipment suppliers for the mill. Etteplan’s tasks included assisting the customer with making the agreement for the main equipment and in the future, the possible design, implementation and handover phases of the mill. The commission also included review of the commercial agreement and recommendations for amendments as well as evaluating the technical aspect of bids.

The aim is to build a competitive bar mill to manufacture reinforced steel. Etteplan’s strengths in the commission are its expertise in project management and design, independence from equipment manufacturers and earlier first-rate references from projects in Saudi Arabia.
