The process management system for a steel mill’s sintering plant developed and designed by Etteplan’s Oulu unit from the system originally used by Rautaruukki upgrades the homogeneity of sinter fed into a blast furnace. Furthermore, having exact knowledge of the composition of the sintering mix makes it possible to reduce the fuel consumption in a sintering plant. Etteplan has planned and is designing a sintering plant process management system for delivery by Rautaruukki to several steel mills in China.

The sintering plant process management system automatically handles the composition of the sintering mix. The system monitors and analyses the mix and the sinter during processing. When necessary, it also adjusts the amount of raw material in accordance with the analysis. Thus, it is possible to reduce analytical variations and optimize production according to the sintering mix.
