Its sound know-how of wastewater
treatment plant technology and of conditions
in Russia was instrumental in landing Etteplan
the electrical and automation design commission
for the St Petersburg Southwest Wastewater Treatment
Plant. SWTP Construction Oy, a consortium of
YIT, Skanska and NCC, constructed the wastewater
treatment plant and the European Investment Bank,
EIB, was a major project financier.
The project,
started in 2003 and completed two years later,
was one of Etteplan’s largest wastewater
treatment plant design assignments. The plant
has the capacity to treat the wastewater for
a population of more than 700,000 people.
The company’s office in the capital
area has worked on wastewater treatment plant
projects for the forest industry for close
on 15 years, thus giving Etteplan sound experience
in this sector. The company’s Imatra
office, which has become well versed with the
Russian way of doing things and local norms,
brought on board the experience it has gained
from collaborating on several projects in Russia.
In all, 15 employees from Etteplan were involved
in the project.
The customer appreciates Etteplan’s
contribution to the project which remained
on schedule, and Etteplan was able to deal
flexibly with changes that cropped up as the
project progressed.
