References Transferring a tube plant from Denmark to Finland

  • Project country: Denmark - Finland

  Project in Brief

Rautaruukki rationalized its thin wall tube production and transferred two production lines from Denmark to Lappohja in Finland. The rearrangement and centralization of operations improved Rautaruukki’s cost efficiency and increased profitability.

Etteplan’s Oulu office took part in drawing up the preliminary studies for the new arrangements and prepared the technical plans and the programme for the implementation phase of the transfer. The project was carried out during 2003-2004.

The programme for the implementation phase included designing layout, machinery, electrical distribution, automation, building and HEPAC as well as larger alterations in renewing machine shields for the wall tube lines and coil handling equipment. Etteplan’s assets lay in the fact that the same design office was able to offer wide-ranging know-how in design as well as experience with similar projects.

The programme included changing a cold store over to production space and building electric facilities, a new wall tube extrusion machine hall, tube warehouse, car parking facilities, surface protection oil storage and gates and fences surrounding the area.

Electrical distribution and automation included the supervision of design, installation and commissioning, planning the electrical distribution for the building and process electronics and programming (logics, panels), commissioning and training.
