Electromagnetic Simulation Services

Electromagnetic (EM) simulation is an integral part of product development projects by helping with prototype fine tuning. After planning and creating a simulation model as well as analyzing the results, we make necessary corrections to the prototypes. This will take away unnecessary prototype rounds and will save time compared to traditional development cycles.

Key Benefits
Minimizes risks in product development
Reduces the number of prototypes
Shorter R&D period resulting in shorter time to market
Cost savings in product development projects

EM simulation for optimized product performance

The need for electromagnetic (EM) simulation is increasing rapidly because more complex antenna designs are needed, speed of digital buses are increasing and radio technology frequencies are getting higher e.g. due to 5G requirements. With simulations, we can reduce the number of prototypes, measure the speed of digital buses or ultimately optimize product's power usage.

Antenna and RF Circuit

With antenna simulations, we ensure that all useful antenna space is utilized effectively so that the device functions optimally in the wanted frequency, regardless of the changing environment. For antenna simulations we use ANSYS tools but also adopt tools preferred by the customer.

We use RF circuit simulator for matching impedances and for optimizing stability, linearity, gain and noise figure of amplifiers. Monte Carlo analysis is applied to find correct and cost effective tolerance values for components. For RF circuit simulation we typically use NI AWR Microwave Office.

2D Field Solver

We use 2D field solver to simulate single-ended or differential characteristic impedance of any kind of structure e.g. cable cross section, connectors or complex PCB buildup. When calculating PCB transmission lines, also approximation equations can be used, but when high accuracy is needed, it’s better to use 2D field solver and for this we prefer ANSYS tools.

Signal and Power Integrity

With early phase signal and power integrity simulations, many related issues can be avoided in PCB design.

We highly recommend resonance analysis for all PCB layout designs. This fast and automated simulation test reveals possible power and signal integrity risks in design. Typically, optimization of decoupling capacitors, adding missing return current vias and eliminating potential resonance structures make a big difference to reliability and EMC performance.

Nowadays there are many high-speed interfaces, like DDR3/4, that are very difficult, expensive or even impossible to verify in test lab by test instruments. For these kinds of interfaces, virtual compliance simulation is vital to succeed in high-speed design. With virtual compliance simulation we can check that e.g. eye diagrams and over/undershoot comply with standards.

For signal and power integrity simulations we also use ANSYS and Mentor HyperLynx tools.
