A smart event platform

A mobile application developed by Etteplan and the City of Tampere will be used as the publication platform for the Helsinki Market Square.

Etteplan developed a mobile guidance application for Helsinki Market Square. Visitors of Kauppatori can use the application to find more information about the services in the region as well as the ferry connections to the archipelago (e.g. Suomenlinna). The application provides a digital way for the businesses in the region to offer their services to the visitors, who can then see the points of interest on the map and select the ones most relevant to them.

"In the future, the city of Helsinki will also be able to utilise the Market Square platform in other potential Smart City projects that aim to make cities smarter than ever before," says Matti Anttonen, Business Architect at Etteplan.

A customisable cloud-based solution

The application was created with ReactJS frontend library and Redux state management and implemented as a Progressive Web App (PWA) while using Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform. PWA combines features of traditional mobile applications with ones from web applications. A separate publishing platform (Events App) enables maintaining the content of the application.

Developing the guidance of the Market Square is part of the joint Ecosystem of Guidance project between Helsinki, Tampere and Turku (https://itsasign.fi/en). It is funded by the 6Aika strategy of six cities that develops more open and smarter services. The mobile website has been developed by Etteplan MORE Oy.
