Ltd (WYEC) has ordered engineering design from Etteplan for an engine testing facility for WYEC’s new plant in Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province. WYEC is a joint-venture company established by Wärtsilä Corporation and Yuchai Marine Power Engine Co. Ltd in December 2012 to manufacture medium-speed marine engines to serve the shipbuilding industry. Production is scheduled to begin in 2014. The testing facility planned for China will be able to test several engine types across a broad range of outputs. Etteplan will handle the electrical and automation engineering for the new testing facility, and will be in charge of project management and finding local co-operation partners. “Etteplan has long-term experience of China’s markets and engineering requirements, as well as special expertise in transferring technology to China. Our decision was furthermore influenced by the high quality of Etteplan’s engineering projects in China and the company’s ability to meet tight schedules,” says WYEC’s Managing Director, Stefan Wiik. Etteplan’s Finnish units in Vaasa, Kouvola, Vantaa, and Oulu and its Chinese units in Shanghai and Kunshan are all involved in the engineering work. “This project for WYEC is an excellent example of our ability to offer our customers the best possible know-how, combining our strengths from Europe and China,” says Veikko Lamminen, SVP, Operations, Finland.
