Etteplan visualizations

Etteplan have the experience and expertise to produce a vast range of visualizations, from simple instructional line drawings to complex animations, videos, renderings and full-blown virtual reality training solutions. These visualizations can be for technical documentation, training purposes, marketing materials or prototyping.

Key Benefits
Save translation costs
Improve understanding and learning
Improve user satisfaction

The choice of visualization always depends on the purpose, message to be conveyed, audience and media type. These are a few examples of what we can do for you:

For instructional material we can create traditional step-by-step line drawings, for example working from 3D models, photographs, engineering drawings and product prototypes. These are typically quick to produce, globally understood, and subsequently do not need to be translated or localized.

Users of technical documentation want to understand the content as quickly as possible. Some users prefer text while others prefer to study images, so we try to strike a balance suitable to all. We also try to make images as re-usable as possible from the outset, to suit structured documentation and to reduce costs in the long term.

For marketing material, we can produce photographs or work with 3D models to produce beautiful super-realistic renderings which show customers how their product will look, even before the product is completed. Ultimately, this enhances customer satisfaction because problems can be seen and dealt with before final production begins.

High quality animations and renderings

Visualizations must always be chosen to match the purpose, message to be conveyed, audience and media type. Animations, renderings and XR (VR/AR) are generally suited to different situations:

Animations are a great way to show the steps of a process, thereby making the information globally accessible, without needing to translate or localize.
We can work from 3D models to produce beautiful super-realistic renderings which can be used to show customers how their product will look, even before the product is completed. Renderings are particularly useful when products will be customized with different surface finishes or features to suit the customer. Ultimately, this enhances customer satisfaction because problems can be seen and rectified before final production begins. Renderings enable customers to visualize in advance and avoid disappointment later.

Virtual reality (VR) is ideally suited to immersive training. For example, astronauts might want to practice the operations that they must perform on a spacewalk. VR provides a safe platform in which to practice their moves, while giving a relatively realistic impression of the working environment around them. It’s far better to learn by dropping a spanner in VR than in the depths of space. Few people are astronauts, but VR can be used in a very wide range of fields. For people who like to learn by doing, rather than by reading, VR is the next best thing.

Augmented reality (AR) is suited to situations where real-world environments can be enhanced by computer-generated perceptual information, usually as overlaid sensory information. For example, AR can be used to allow the user to see the inner workings of a product or structure without opening it up.

There is more choice than ever for delivery media, including paper, smartphones, tablets, computers and televisions. We work hard to ensure that our visualizations work properly, regardless of the delivery medium.

Whether your goal is to instruct, educate, entertain or sell, we can help you choose and create the visualizations to match your needs and audience.

We offer the following services to support visualization:

  • Technical communication. Our technical writers can communicate directly with our illustration professionals, to decide which steps of manuals require illustration.
  • Risk assessments. We can risk-assess visualizations either on their own or as part of a larger entity to identify and minimize risks.
  • Localization. By using in-house localization experts, we can easily check for potential localization issues before visuals are released.
  • Mechanical design. Mechanical designers can provide 3D models but, through easy dialogue, they can also learn from our illustration professionals who may notice design problems.
  • Expertise with structured documentation.
  • Simplified Technical Illustration, to make images as clear and reusable as possible.
