Etteplan unveils core sustainability metrics and targets following a Double Materiality Assessment

We are proud to announce the development of a comprehensive set of sustainability metrics and targets after conducting a Double Materiality Assessment (DMA) in 2023-2024. This assessment considers environmental, social, and governance factors, and was guided by stakeholder engagement with both internal and external participants.

"In line with our commitment to sustainability, Etteplan has completed a thorough Double Materiality Assessment to guide our actions and targets. We are excited about the development of our core sustainability metrics, which will enable us to make meaningful progress in environmental and social responsibility and good governance practices, " says Outi Torniainen, SVP Marketing and Communications.

Under the environmental domain, Etteplan is committed to reducing emissions percentage within scopes 1 and 2 by 42% from the 2022 Carbon footprint calculation baseline. The carbon footprint in 2022 of Etteplan operations in Finland and Sweden was about 14 526 tonnes of CO2 equivalent, about 95% are occurring in the value chain. The company will continue to monitor and follow the Carbon footprint in Finland and Sweden, with the ultimate goal of expanding this effort globally. Additionally, Etteplan aims to increase the percentage of EU-taxonomy-eligible projects from the 62% of the turnover of Taxonomy-aligned activities in 2023 to make a more significant impact. To achieve this, the company will invest resources and enhance its knowledge in developing operations that align with EU taxonomy requirements.

Diversity and Inclusion measures in focus

The Double Materiality Assessment also emphasized the importance of equal treatment and opportunities for all. Etteplan recognizes that diversity within the workforce and work community is essential, and therefore, has identified equal treatment and opportunities, along with diversity of the work community and own workforce, as significant material topics. Etteplan has consistently monitored and tracked the gender pay gap, and starting in 2024, the company will publicly report this data. Additionally, Etteplan is enhancing its internal personnel survey to include an Inclusion Index, which will allow the company to continually measure and improve workplace well-being. Etteplan is also examining its workforce composition to assess its diversity levels by comparing the percentage of women at Etteplan to female Science and Technology graduates in Etteplan countries, as well as the weighted average in proportion to the size of Etteplan in those countries.

Enhanced commitment to business ethics

Within the governance realm, the main material themes identified were company culture, and anti-corruption and bribery. Etteplan has a history of measuring and reporting on these aspects of good governance. In the future, the company will further enhance its commitment to ethical business practices by mandating all employees to undergo training in the company's Code of Conduct, ensuring a solid understanding of business ethics.

This comprehensive Double Materiality Assessment demonstrates Etteplan's dedication to responsible business practices and will serve as a roadmap for the company's sustainability efforts moving forward. As a global engineering leader, Etteplan remains committed to addressing sustainability challenges and creating positive change in the world.
