Etteplan has developed, in collaboration with the S Group and Solita, the S-Purchase Card (S-Ostokortti), which is an alternative to a paper-based payment commitment. To enable the solution, Etteplan developed a digital card management system and the technical back-end infrastructure required for seamless payment processing. The S-Purchase Card was recently awarded in the Best Service Design category at the Grand One 2026 competition, Finland’s largest competition in digital marketing and service design. In addition, the solution received an honorable mention in the Best Work Promoting Positive Change category. The Grand One award recognizes the S-Purchase Card’s user-centric design, high technical quality and significant societal impact.
A new digital solution to replace paper-based payment commitments
In Finland, organizations such as parishes, municipalities and non-profits have traditionally provided financial assistance through paper-based shopping vouchers or payment commitments. As a long-standing digitalization partner of S-Business, Etteplan modernized this process by developing a fully digital payment commitment solution. The result is the S-Purchase Card – a modern, efficient, flexible and user-friendly card that, together with its management system, enables organizations to manage and monitor card usage efficiently and in real time. The solution is seamlessly integrated with S Group’s point-of-sale systems, allowing the card balance, validity and usage conditions to be automatically verified at the time of purchase.
Tangible societal impact
The S-Purchase Card reduces the administrative processes and delays associated with paper-based payment commitments. At the same time, it improves the user experience for recipients of support: paying with the card is easy and convenient, which helps reduce any potential sense of stigma associated with receiving assistance and makes the process more discreet and dignified. The S-Purchase Card makes purchasing more flexible and user-friendly, while demonstrating how digital transformation can simplify processes and make everyday life smoother.
“The project’s potential societal impact was clear from an early stage, which made it especially meaningful for the Etteplan team. Close collaboration with S Group and other partners during the development and finalization of the solution enabled a modern and sustainable outcome with genuine societal value, ” says Toni Tervo, Senior Project Manager at Etteplan.
