Heart in the Field, Head in Technology – How Sara Built a Unique Role from Scratch

When Sara Hall got a call from her former manager Magnus Olsson, she barely knew what Etteplan was. But that call led to something rare—a role that didn’t exist yet, and an opportunity to shape it from scratch. “It was a brand-new position, and I was given the freedom to build it the way I thought best,” Sara explains. She left her previous job and hasn’t looked back since.

Today, Sara works with quality assurance of information in the network information system at one of Sweden’s largest energy companies. Her job is to ensure that documentation, technical data and map visuals are accurate and up to date. This is essential for making sure the system reflects reality—for both internal projects and contractors out in the field.

Thanks to her own experience in fieldwork, Sara has a unique understanding of both the operational reality and the digital structure. She works in the client’s new system environment and is responsible for ensuring that the right data is in the right place, that maintenance projects are properly documented, and that network information is reliable.

Even though she’s based at the client site, Sara feels deeply supported by Etteplan. “I’ve always known I can count on more than just my manager—the entire Etteplan team has my back. That kind of support is invaluable.”

Etteplan’s values, Forward Focus and Smarter Together, are part of Sara’s everyday mindset. “They give me that extra push when things get tough. I know we’ll solve it—together!”

Outside of work, Sara’s commitment is just as impressive. “I usually say I have a 100% regular job, and then a 150% job on top of that—I work in Civil Defense,” she says. She works as a tracked vehicle driver, instructor and incident commander. In her role, she trains people from across Sweden to operate various vehicles such as tracked vehicles, all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles, and teaches crisis management for operations. She’s also an electrical plant operator and sits on the board of FAK - Frivilliga Automobilkåren. “It takes a considerable amount of time, but it’s so important. Etteplan has always understood my commitment and the time I need to dedicate to it.”

When she’s not out in the field or conducting training sessions, Sara spends time with her family. She lives with her husband, who is also involved in civil defense, and their adult son, who is likewise trained as a tracked vehicle driver. “We share many common interests, even if our son sometimes wonders what we’re heading off to this time,” says Sara with a big smile.

At home, there are also horses and other animals, and horseback riding is a major passion. “That’s where I recharge – in nature, with the animals, and with my family.”
