We’re always smarter together: Amalia’s journey at Etteplan
When Amalia Svanberg decided to change careers later in life, she did so with a clear goal: to work in technology and stay in tune with the times. She retrained as a technical communicator and completed her internship at Etteplan, a turning point that marked the beginning of something much bigger.
“I wanted to keep up with the pace of change and contribute with the experience I already had. During my internship, I got hands-on with product information and technical writing, and I immediately knew I was in the right place,” Amalia says.

After graduating, she applied for a role as a Documentation Manager—and got it. With her background as an Education Manager and Project Manager, she quickly stepped into assignments in the hydropower and energy sectors. Her drive and clear communication stood out, and before long, she was asked to take on more responsibility.
Amalia is currently the Team Manager leading a consulting team supporting one of Sweden's largest energy companies. “It feels like I’ve found my place. I get to combine my technical expertise with my experience in leading people. It’s familiar, it’s solid and it’s a lot of fun.”
Amalia credits Etteplan’s culture as a key factor in her journey. “There’s a genuine commitment to investing in people. Starting as an intern and growing into a Team Manager reflects Etteplan’s strong commitment to nurturing potential and investing in people.”
She describes her leadership style as inclusive and solution-oriented. “I believe in open communication and building trust. My role is to be the person people turn to when they hit a roadblock. It’s the team that should succeed. When they succeed, I succeed.”

This mindset is reflected in her choice of value word: Smarter Together. “It’s incredibly important to me that we collaborate openly and stay transparent with each other. As soon as we start talking, we find better solutions. Things always go better when we work together than when we try to solve everything on our own.”
For Amalia, leadership is about creating a culture where people feel safe to be themselves and where success is shared.
As Team Manager at Etteplan, Amalia is often where the work happens. One day she’s wearing a helmet and safety vest at a hydropower site in Sollefteå, the next she’s meeting colleagues in Gothenburg, Karlstad or Stockholm. She works both on-site and at the office—always focused on building relationships, creating clarity and strengthening collaboration.
Outside of work, Amalia is just as curious and driven. She’s lived in the US, run a store, bought a boat and learned to navigate, all with the same mindset as Pippi Longstocking: “I have never tried that before, so I think I should definitely be able to do that”. Her latest personal adventure is becoming a dog owner, once again diving into something new, learning and growing along the way.

With a strong desire to keep developing and making a difference, Amalia looks to the future with optimism. “I don’t have a fixed goal, I want to be where I’m needed. And I want to stay curious. Anything can happen.”
