Chinese Polar Research Vessel

Etteplan designs the hull structures of a Polar Research Vessel based on the concept of Aker Arctic Technology Inc. It will be the first Chinese built icebreaker and it will be built for The Polar Research Institute of China.

This multifunctional icebreaker has dual classification and therefore it is designed according to Lloyd’s Register and China Classification Society rules. The vessel will be able to operate in 1.5 m thick ice with the icebreaking speed of 2-3 knots stern or bow first.

Etteplan has been responsible for the design of the hull structures and the basic design of the vessel. Etteplan has also delivered the classification drawings, and the technical calculations and FE analyses for strength and vibration.
