Varova strengthened its expertise in logistics emission calculation with Etteplan’s support
The international logistics service company Varova wanted to enhance its staff’s competence in carbon footprint calculation and reporting. The goal was to ensure that customer discussions about CO₂ emissions are based on up-to-date information and that employees can interpret the content of emission reports.
Etteplan met this need by delivering training focused on the carbon footprint of logistics for Varova’s personnel.
“Our aim was to enable more knowledgeable conversations with customers about greenhouse gas emissions and to understand emission reports that show reductions, for example, thanks to the use of biofuels or electricity. Etteplan was chosen as the training provider because it is Varova’s emission reporting partner and has strong expertise in carbon footprint calculation,” says Jari Järvelä, Varova’s Traffic Director.
Tailored carbon footprint training for Varova’s needs
Etteplan delivered a concise training session covering the basics of logistics carbon footprint, emission reporting requirements, and customer benefits. Before the training, participants’ skill levels were assessed through a pre-training questionnaire, which allowed the content to be tailored to Varova’s needs.
“The training was designed to be as interactive as possible so participants could actively discuss and challenge perspectives. It was great to see how Varova’s team embraced the importance of climate work and understood its potential in customer relations,” tells Artturi Kalliomäki, Etteplan’s Project Manager and the training facilitator.
The training also delved into Varova’s carbon footprint report and explored how to use it in customer discussions. Finally, concrete actions were defined to support customers’ emission reduction goals.
Training delivered confidence and tangible benefits
Participants felt their competence improved through the training and that they could engage in customer conversations with greater confidence. Key takeaways included the basic principles of carbon footprint, the use of emission factors, and the significance of CO₂ equivalent.

“Etteplan's clear and expert approach, along with its ability to tailor training to our needs, was crucial. Etteplan’s strength lies in managing the entire carbon footprint process from start to finish.”
