Etteplan's test laboratory in Jyväskylä, Finland, has been included among the test laboratories recognized by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED), the corresponding Canadian authority. Going forward, customer companies can have the testing required for the North American market carried out for their products at Etteplan, in the same laboratory as the testing of products intended for the EU market.

Certifying electronics and radio equipment for the North American market requires that the product has been tested in a laboratory recognized by the FCC and ISED. The new statuses of Etteplan's test laboratory in Jyväskylä mean that the laboratory meets this requirement for the testing of electromagnetic emissions from digital devices, license-exempt radio transmitters, and industrial, scientific and medical equipment that generates radio frequency energy.

Etteplan's testing customers now receive compliance testing for both the EU and the North American markets from the same partner and the same laboratory. The change benefits manufacturers of consumer products as well as industrial equipment. The benefit is particularly significant for developers of power electronics, industrial radio equipment and industrial IoT.

“An increasing number of our customers develop products for global markets. When compliance testing for several market areas can be carried out in the same laboratory, planning the testing as a whole becomes simpler, there are fewer interfaces, and products reach the market faster. This change strengthens our position as a testing partner that helps customers bring their products to market simultaneously in several geographical regions, ” says Timo Kallinen, Director, Compliance and Verification at Etteplan.

Etteplan's renewed and expanded test laboratory in Jyväskylä, Finland, was opened in fall 2024, and it is one of the most versatile testing environments in Finland. Etteplan's test laboratory enables customer companies to conduct a wide range of physical tests on their devices and products. The laboratory offers a broad portfolio of testing services, including electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and radio frequency (RF) testing, as well as various antenna, environmental, and product safety tests. The facility also houses one of Northern Europe's largest vibration testers, which can be used to test the vibration resistance of products during transport or throughout their lifecycle, and a five-meter EMC chamber that allows for the testing of large industrial equipment. The laboratory's capabilities and the number of accredited standards are being continuously expanded.
