Etteplan signs Sweden’s digitalisation consultancy industry’s roadmap for fossil-free competitiveness and global sustainability.Back to Releases
Etteplan News release 12.4.2019
-Etteplan has contributed to and endorses Sweden’s digitalisation consultancy industry’s innovation-driven roadmap which expresses the industry’s ambition to help society become aware of and tap the potential of digitalisation. The roadmap was presented to the Swedish Parliament on the 20th of March, 2019.
For Sweden to become climate neutral by 2045, a transformation of the whole of society and a great many technical leaps must be made quickly. The solutions that digitalisation enables, which we at Etteplan and other digitalisation consultants are helping to implement, have tremendous potential to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. Studies that focus on optimising current systems show that digital solutions can contribute to an estimated 20 percent reduction of global emissions. However, the opportunity to cut emissions is considerably larger if we also include the transformative potential of digitalisation, which can help meet the needs of society in entirely new ways.
Digitalisation should be considered a catalyst that can speed development either in a fossil-free and resource-efficient direction or a fossil- and resource-intensive direction. This is why, in addition to adopting new technology, we also need to work with how it is used and for what, and ensure that business models, behaviours, regulations and organisational approaches are adapted for a sustainable and digitalised world.
“Etteplan’s experts and engineers work daily to deliver smart and innovative digital solutions that not only boost our clients’ competitiveness but also contribute to global sustainable fossil-fuel freedom. With this roadmap and the pooling of resources with our colleagues in the digitalisation consultancy industry, we are now stronger than ever and will make a significant difference,” says Mikael Vatn, Managing Director of Etteplan Sweden AB.

About Fossil Free Sweden
Sweden is to become one of the world’s first fossil-free welfare nations. This is not just a vision; it will soon become reality now that several industries have drawn up their own roadmaps for fossil-free competitiveness. This work is extremely important since the pace of reductions of
global greenhouse gas emissions is much too slow to prevent the average rise in global temperature from exceeding 1.5 degrees Celsius. The Fossil Free Sweden initiative was launched by the Swedish Government ahead of the COP 21 climate change conference in Paris in 2015 to gather stakeholders from all sectors of society who share the vision of Sweden being one of the world’s first fossil-free welfare nations and are themselves prepared to contribute to the transition. Today, more than 400 companies, municipalities, regions and organisations are taking part in the initiative. For more info, please visit http://fossilfritt-sverige.se/
